About this audit selection

On 28 April 2026, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh, issued a press release announcing that 72,341 income tax returns have been selected for audit in the second phase for tax year 2023–24 through a fully automated system based on Risk-Based Audit Criteria. An earlier first phase, conducted in July 2025, selected 15,494 cases through a random selection method.

Under this system, a maximum of 300 and a minimum of 20 taxpayers have been selected from each tax circle. As there is no manual intervention in the selection process, the system fulfills the long-standing demand of taxpayers and civil society for a fully transparent audit selection.
